The Bills come off a tumultuous offseason that resulted in 88-year-old owner Ralph Wilson firing team president / general manager Tom Donahoe after five lackluster seasons without a playoff appearance.
Wilson's first move was to hire his buddy, Marv Levy, 80, who coached the Bills to four straight Super Bowls in the early 1990s but has been out of the league since retiring as a coach in 1997. Despite having no GM experience, Levy has been cast in the role as the franchise's savior. The problem is that Wilson and Levy want to win now, while the talent on the roster indicates there is considerable rebuilding to be done.
Levy spent the offseason conducting a coaching search following Mike Mularkey's unexpected resignation, learning the nuances of the salary cap, familiarizing him-self with his team and free agents and studying up for the draft.

Bills NFL 2006 Draft: |
| The Bills came up with two of the big 3 surprises of Round One. At No. 8 overall, they selected Donte Whitner, an undersized g, one-year starter at Ohio State. He will be HI! expected to replace strong safety Lawyer Milloy. Then, later in the first, they traded up
with Chicago to select N.C. State defensive tackle John McCargo. Both were selected 10-15 slots higher than projected. Ashton Youboty, another underclassman from the Ohio State defensive backfield, should eventually replace Nate Clements. Ko Simpson was projected as a late first-rounder following last season, but slid to the fourth following unimpressive workouts and interviews. Kyle Williams is a hard-working overachiever who can be an emotional pacesetter up front. Brad Butler played opposite / D'Brickashaw Ferguson (Jets) at Virginia and S can contribute on either side. Keith Ellison was a highly productive linebacker in the Pac-10. Terrance Pennington and Aaron Merz will likely spend their rookie seasons on the practice squad. The first seven picks all have a chance to make significant contributions in Buffalo. |
