The Jaguars have reached the proverbial fork in the road.
Fresh off of a 12-4 season and the team's first playoff appearance in six seasons, Jacksonville believes its team is ready for the passing lane. But much has changed, including a very difficult schedule and the collective improvement within the AFC South, and the Jaguars must prove once again they have what it takes to run with the big dogs.
The defense rates as the calling card of Jack Del Rio's team. The conservative offense isn't always an asset and, despite a wealth of talent, its shortage of playmakers limits expectations in the minds of some observers. Still, if QB Byron Leftwich can raise his level of play and the supporting cast continues to grow, 2006 has a chance to be another promising season in Jacksonville.

Jaguars NFL 2006 Draft:

Marcedes Lewis dominated early in his senior season, looking like a sure first-round, draft choice, but he struggled some down the stretch. If he can improve his blocking skills, the former UCLA Bruin should take some of the pressure off the outside receivers. At just 5-7, Maurice Jones-Drew did it all for UCLA last season as a runner, receiver and return man. He will be groomed to replace Fred Taylor. Clint Ingram is an underrated SAM linebacker prospect and fills a position of need for the Jaguars. Defensive end/outside linebacker Brent Hawkins dominated in I-AA last season, but will need to find his position in the NFL. James Wyche is a top athlete, but has struggled to put it all together on the field. Dee Webb was a standout corner in the SEC last season, but had to be disappointed in waiting until the final round to hear his name called. The two former UCLA players will need to take some of the pressure off Byron Leftwich to make this a successful draft for the Jags.
