It was 15 seasons ago that Joe Gibbs led the Redskins to their last Super Bowl title, and this might be the franchise's best chance to get back to sports' biggest stage since then.
The legitimate Super Bowl talk began when the club added offensive guru Al Saunders to an already impressive coaching staff that features four men with NFL head-coaching experience, in addition to four former coordinators. It continued when the team had yet another big offseason in terms of player movement, adding key elements in terms of WR help and pass-rush ability.
But that title talk will continue only if the team can keep QB Mark Brunell healthy, establish a real complement to phenom WR Santana Moss and replace the play making ability of LB LaVar Arrington, who was allowed to walk.
Who cares if they overspend in the off-season? Daniel Snyder just might have himself a Lombardi Trophy-winning team finally.

Redskins NFL 2006 Draft: |
| After addressing many of their holes through free agency, one hole that still , had to be filled was at linebacker, where LaVar Arrington needed to be replaced. Washington traded up in the second round to select Rocky Mclntosh, who could start as a rookie. Anthony Montgomery is a massive widebody who excels against the run. Reed Doughty was a highly productive safety at Northern Colorado and will provide quality depth behind Adam Archuleta. Kedric Golston has size and athletic ability, but struggled some with injuries. Kili Lefotu is strong and excels in the running game, but will struggle to make this roster. Kevin Simon can play inside or outside, but he struggled with injuries as a collegian. Trading away this year's first-round draft choice for Jason Campbell also has to be figured into the final grade. This has the look of a three-player draft (Campbell, Mclntosh and Doughty). |
