The change in offseason philosophy and approach from free-agency wallflower to active participants was a breath of fresh air following three seasons of roster purging and salary-cap repair. Now the Titans can start to rebuild with new playoff-tested veterans such as David Givens and Chris Hope, whose former teams combined to win the past three Super Bowls, not to mention highly regarded rookies Vince Young and LenDale White. Add David Thornton and Kevin Mawae, no strangers to the postseason themselves, and you have an influx of talent and valuable experience. But the strange saga with QB Steve McNair, a steady Pro Bowler last season, leaves this team in need of an identity. Young is not ready, and there are no veterans, save perhaps Keith Bulluck, who have filled a major leadership role.
Though there's hope in Nashville, reality weighs heavily. The Titans won only four games last season, all four against teams with losing records. Jeff Fisher and his staff have done a nice job of keeping things positive, but there's still a rebuilding theme prevalent with the Titans.

Titans NFL 2006 Draft:

In one of the most difficult picks of the first round, the Titans had to choose between Vince Young and Matt Leinart. While Young offers A greater potential and upside, the former Heisman Trophy winner is much more NFL-ready with his mechanics and ability to read defenses. Once considered a top-10 talent, LenDale White slipped all the way to No. 45 overall due to conditioning and character concerns. He should prove to be a second-round steal. Calvin Lowry isn't flashy, but has the ability to start on the next level. Stephen Tulloch is an undersized linebacker who was extremely productive last season at N.C. State. Terna Nande is an OLB/S 'tweener who should be a special-teams terror. Jesse Mahelona was a disruptive inside force as a junior, but struggled with injuries last year. Jonathan Orr has outstanding speed and potential, but has yet to put it all together on game day. Cortland Finnegan will need to impress returning kicks to make the team. Spencer Toone is another addition to the Titans' rebuilt group of line-backers. Quinton Ganther is a big back who will struggle making the roster. The development of Young will define this draft in three years.
